- October 10, 2002 Congrats to my old buddy, Bill “Willie” Lambert for his 259 game in last week’s Hays City League. Bill’s been trying for years to shoot that 250 plus game to make him eligible for the year-end Merit Tournament at River City. I won’t mention the 124-146 games he finished with. Atta boy, Willie, and welcome to the club. See ya at the tournament in April. A quick update on Henry County’s premier scratch league, the Hernandez Insurance Classic, and how the top shooters are faring this year. Emilio “Little E” Mora, Jr is setting a torrid pace with 4 straight 700 series and a nasty 239 average. This smooth lefty is pushing dad and teammate, Emilio Sr., to improve his 222 average this season. Shane Bofia checks in at the second high average spot with a 231 while the Eggman somehow is hanging in there with a 227. Last weeks seven 700 plus series’ was a record thus far this season with Marv Kinder and Emilio Jr setting the pace with 738’s apiece. Monica Tonjes had another fine week on the lanes in Henry County’s other scratch league, the ladies’ Napoleon Party Mart League. Monica scored her second 640 plus series of the season with games of 223-235-183 for a 641 series. Her 192 average is second in the league to Karen Zumfelde’s 202 average. Keep ‘em rolling, Monica. Kurt McMurtrie gets the final accolades this week with his 730 series in the Woods Auto League last Thursday. Stringing together games of 225-279-226, Kurt earned his first 700 of the year AND the coveted 150 pins over average on series award. Nice shooting, dude.
